After Cars and Coffee on Saturday, I drove the Phaeton up to Bethlehem, PA for a buddy's bachelor party. The restaurant where we were having dinner has a rather sketchy parking garage, with a very narrow entrance that's on an alarmingly steep decline. I thought if I raised the air suspension, I'd get through unscathed, and I was wrong.
Navigating through the narrow entrance, I ran over a high curb when I turned, and the car dropped about a foot onto the concrete with a crunch and a bang (terrifying moment). My first thought was "Please-oh-please let the air suspension be OK." Thankfully, it seems to be. My alloy wheel got chewed up, and the car's rubberized undercoating took a deep gouge that I've already covered with epoxy. But the curb managed to narrowly miss all vital organs. The struts are working normally, oil pan and fuel tank are fine, and the acres of wiring are untouched.
So now I have shaken nerves a scraped wheel to repair, but it could have been much, much worse. I want to keep her safely tucked in the garage for awhile.

Sounds like a great opportunity to get Bentley wheels.

A VW and the acres of wiring is ok?
One of these:
Are we sure it's really a VW?
Are we sure the wiring is ok?

I've thought about it, but I actually love that mine is stock. I'd like to keep it that way for posterity.

How is it as an everyday driver? Maintenance a bitch or no?

That's what you get for willingly engaging in that debauchery.

Not much debauchery, really. We went to a brewery/steakhouse for dinner, and that was pretty much it. No bewbs.

Until 80K miles, it's only about $2-3K a year in maintenance. After 80K miles, maintenance starts to get expensive. After 100K miles it starts to get really expensive. I'm at 82K miles now.
It's not my daily driver, but it's perfectly capable on the highway and in the city. Just not in itty-bitty parking garages.

Right, kind of what I thought. Was hoping that I was wrong though, wouldn't mind DD'ing a W12 Bentley motor.
